Caregiver - Head Teacher Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS
1. Must be at least 18 years of age and meet one of the following:
a. Four year degree from an accredited college or university, including at least
three (3) credit hours in child development or ECE and three (3) months of
supervised student teaching or six (6) months of experience working with
children in a group setting;
b. Associate degree with three (3) credit hours in child development or ECE
and six (6) months experience working with children in a group setting;
c. A Child Development Associate Credential with six (6) months of
experience working with children in a group setting;
d. At least a high school degree with successful completion of a vocational child
care program approved by the Dept. and six (6) months of experience
working with children in a group setting;
e. At least a high school degree and sixty (60) clock hours of training in child
development or ECE approved by the Dept. and one (1) year of
experience working with children in a group setting;
2. Must be willing to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with the center's
philosophy.
3. Must have patience, creativity, and ability to nurture and teach children.
4 Must have good communication skills and ability to foster positive
relationships with families.
5. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. without restriction.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Plan and implement individual and group activities that promote cognitive,
physical, social, and emotional growth of the children.
2. Implement curriculum designated by the Program Director.
3. Supervise activities in insure safety of children at all times.
4. Establish positive relationships with families and encourage parent
participation in center activities.
5. Attend and participate in all planning sessions, parent /team conferences,
IFSP/IEP evaluations, staff meetings, or in-service trainings, etc. as deemed
necessary by Program and/or Center Director.
6. Maintain appropriate paperwork in timely manner.
7. Keep classroom neat and clean. Clean rooms and equipment as determined
in procedure manual.
8. Supervise, orient, and guide substitutes, volunteers, and students assigned
to classroom.
9. Perform personal care for children as needed - e.g. diaper changes/toileting,
dressing, skin care.
10. Assist with preparation and serving meals and cleanup.
11. Confer with health care team regarding children's medical status and report
any changes in child's behavior or condition to nursing staff.
12. Be knowledgeable of Delacare licensing requirements.
13. Be aware of and abide by all center policies and procedures.
14. Supervise and guide assistant caregiver staff.
15. Reports directly to Program Director.
16. Other duties as assigned by Program Director.
