Early Childhood Assistant Teacher Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS
1. Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and meet one of the following
qualifications:
A. At least a high school degree or its equivalent and successful completion of
‘“Training for Early Care and Education 1” and six (6) months of experience working
with children preschool age or younger in a group setting;
B. At least a high school degree with successful completion of the traditional high
school’s career pathway program in early childhood as recognized by the Office of
Child Care Licensing and six (6) months of experience working with children
preschool age or younger in a group setting; or
C. At least a high school degree or its equivalent and successful completion of six
(6) college/university credits - three (3) in early childhood education and three (3) in
child development and six (6) months of experience working with children preschool
age or younger in a group setting.
2. Must be willing to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with the Center's philosophy.
3. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. without restriction.
4. Must have patience, creativity, and ability to nurture children.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Have knowledge of and abide by center policies and procedures and
Delacare licensing requirements.
2. Work under direct supervision of the classroom teacher(s).
3. Function as a team member and maintain open communication with head teacher
and parents.
4. Maintain safety of children at all times.
5. Keep classroom clean and neat at all times. Clean room and equipment daily as
determined in procedure manual.
6. Assure center philosophy is incorporated in daily activities.
7. Maintain appropriate documentation and chart all care given.
8. Attend all staff meetings, parent conferences, in-service trainings, etc. as
deemed necessary by head teacher or Curriculum Coordinator.
9. Maintain professional attitude and confidentiality of child and center
information at all times.
10. Assist in planning and implementing the daily program under the direction of the
head teacher.
11. Assist with food and snack preparation and daily clean up.
12. Report directly to the classroom teacher.
