Early Childhood Intern
Job Description
QUALIFICATIONS

1.    Must be at least sixteen (16) years of age and have strong desire to work with
children and meet one of the following qualifications:

      A.  At least successful completion of either Delaware First’s “Introduction to
Child Care” or “Child Development” completed within twelve (12) months of
employment;

      B.  At least successful completion of three (3) college/university credits in either
child development or early childhood education.

           i.  Fifteen (15) year olds may be hired only if they are attending a vocational
/ technical high school three (3) year program in early childhood education or a
traditional high school’s career pathway program in early childhood.  Documentation
proving enrollment in such programs shall be on file at the Center.

2.   Must be willing to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with the Center's
philosophy.

3.   Must be able to lift 50 lbs. without restriction.

4.   Must have patience, creativity, and ability to nurture children.


RESPONSIBILITIES

1.   Have knowledge of and abide by center policies and procedures and Delacare
licensing requirements.

2.   Work under direct supervision of the classroom teacher(s) (may not be alone
with infants through children 3 years of age).

3.   Function as a team member and maintain open communication with head
teacher and parents.

4.   Maintain safety of children at all times.

5.   Keep classroom clean and neat at all times. Clean room and equipment daily as
determined in procedure manual.

6.   Maintain appropriate documentation and chart all care given.

7.   Attend all staff meetings, parent conferences, in-service trainings, etc. as
deemed necessary by head teacher or Program Director.

8.   Maintain professional attitude and confidentiality of child and center information
at all times.

9.   Assist in planning and implementing the daily program under the direction of the
head teacher.

10. Assure center philosophy is incorporated in daily activities.

11. Perform personal care for children as needed; e.g.,  diaper changes / toileting,
dressing, skin care.

12. Assist with food and snack preparation and daily clean-up.

13. Report directly to the classroom teacher.
